In Part One, Brother Paul talked about religious tolerance and teaching of Science and Mathematics. Watch how he kutuk-ed the attittude of those who become teachers for the wrong reasons, the politicians for harping on their colonial masters bondage and reason why people are less open-minded about others’ religions.

I have intentionally leave the whole interview intact with very little editing except to accommodate the 10 mins max time allowed by Youtube.

Part 2 is being uploaded as well and will be embedded here.

That’s Father FA’s homily for Pentecost.

It is such a simple reminder that many people often forget. A lot of people tend to dwell in the past, sorrowing over things they cannot change, finding life hard because of this very reason.

I didn’t notice how positive I was until I hear myself talking to Bro. Paul during my interview. Sometimes, we don’t see ourselves until we watched ourselves on video.

I have edited that part out of my interview so I guess I should jot this down somewhere so that I remember God’s grace. It is only with God’s grace and the strength of the Holy Spirit that I could say something so positive.

During the interview with Brother Paul, I asked him what will be his advice for parents dealing with teens. Somehow the conversation got to the part where I told him about my four sons, how good they are because I have never been summoned to Brother Paul’s office. We had a good laugh that the fact that I have never stepped foot in his office indicated that my kids, ranging from 19 years old to 13 years old who used to/are studying in SXI are pretty ok.

I shared with Bro Paul that my perspective of parenting changed drastically after the death of my fourth son. I told him how my three older boys used to help me care for the sick baby brother. After his death, I viewed life differently, changing priorities and I am more like a friend to my sons now than being a mother. I also told him about our conversion to Catholicism six years ago.

When I listened back to what I said, I reliased that one can only have that kind of positive tone, filled with thankfulness rather than sadness because of God’s grace.

So, today on Pentecost, Father FA reminded us that we are now filled with the Holy Spirit and we must make use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to live life to the fullest. The seven gifts are wisdom, understanding, counsel (right judgement), fortitude (courage), knowledge, piety and fear/awe of the Lord.

Just in case people wonder what is Pentecost, it is the day the Holy Spirit (or the Holy Ghost) of Jesus Christ descended from Heavens and filled (possessed, if you like) Christians. So, in a way, we have the Holy Spirit (or the Roh Kudus) of Jesus in each of us. And the thing is, Jesus doesn’t not discern whom deserves it and whom doesn’t. It is there, only thing is whether we acknowledge it and make the best of it. For us Catholics, the youths around 16 years old undergo the Sacrament of Confirmation (or for adult converts like me, we had it at our baptism) where they are filled with the Holy Spirit.

However, one can be such a pious Christian who can do no wrong and yet, that person could actually be his own human, robotic, ritualistic person and not one filled with the Holy Spirit. I have met some of the most “un-Christian” people and yet, they possessed so much of the good sides of Christ, I am in awe. And there are those who claimed to be 100% thoroughbred Cat-holics LOL who just freak me out with their undertones of hate, revenge, expectation of God’s paying them for their good deeds and their small heart-ednes.

So, yes, thank you Lord for the comfort, strength, wisdom and love of the Holy Spirit. Though I failed to complete the 9-day Novena prayers due to family and work commitment, I know You have answered some of my petitions.

I found a message on my phone this morning, asking if I can cover a press conference at Lim Kit Siang’s house which is nearby my place.

Of course! It is a chance for me to go chase those politicians who haven’t reply my emails about the homeless people and other issues. And you know what other udang di sebalik batu lah…

So, I got there too early because there was no jam on a Saturday morning. I saw a couple of policemen and a police car. Being a noob, I hid in my car lah….Don’t later kena ‘Woman detained while on the way to Lim Kit Siang’s house’. You know how paranoid our police are, right?

But our videographer sifu reminded us that if we want prime location at any press conference, go early by half an hour, plonk your tripod and ‘jom’ the spot. Like a noob, I was there 25 mins early. Later on, other reporters started to arrive, in twos or fours.

There I was….all alone. And no one ‘hiu’ me ‘cos I si peh lansi face. So kesian, right? Somemore all the reporters speaking Mandarin and all below 25 yrs old. Poor, poor me, all alone….Then, the Bernama elephant size camera and other cameras with condenser mike with long long cable made me even more kesian….I shrunk to the size of a mouse….

After some action of LKS, Karpal Singh and LGE meeting the police in the house, while we reporters and fake reporter like me (actually I am pretending to be humble only) were outside shooting, they finally came out….

I put my video camera into my tripod and stood in position. And then…jeng, jeng, jeng….CM came out and said, “Hey Lilian, how are you? You are with Malaysiakini now issit?”

Wuah….can you imagine…damn bangga man…..The CM knows my name, you all know anot???? I laughed and told him, “No lah, I help them to cover only, no gaji one.”

After that, my camera somehow expand back like my ego. But thank God, my videos came out extremely good. One is already on malaysiakini.tv and one more is on the way. See? I lone ranger, no need one reporter, two cameramen to cover. No need condenser mike oso. Somemore hor, while people busy filming, I could stand back and fan myself because I got remote control to zoom in and out. I tell you, a few more press conference like this, the rest of the reporters sure boycott me. LOL. But really lah, it is nice to do it just for fun.

And that’s not all. I purposely put my video camera in my new Clinique free floral bag with pink and green colour. I use a pink paper notepad. LOL. Saja wanna act like I bimbo noob to throw people off because a lot of them wonder which lubang this auntie with flowery bag for a video camera pouch came from.

Come to think of it, I am so thankful for our Malaysiakini-ICFJ training because they really gave my coursemate and I a really good foothold. Or maybe because we are talented ‘fake reporter’.

After the press conference, I went over to Penanti to cover the by-election there. Jimmy and I just tagged along to see how the real pros work. So, the photos are just ‘poser’ lah. Still, it is good exposure and learning experience.

We went to this kampung with millions of house flies and interviewed Ari, an independent candidate. I like him because he is humble and stressed a lot on welfare for the poor people in Penanti. I have edited the video of the interview and wish him all the best.

So, it is all in a day’s work.

It is the start of the school holidays. Two whole weeks for mommy and babies bonding. My kids will puke with the ‘my babies’ reference. Even my six years old boy refused to be kissed anymore. So sad, no more babies to kiss and snuggle.

Talking about the boy, if I am in my ‘i want to kiss you mood’, he will go ‘wait….only hugging, no kissing, kissing is for sissies’. Sigh…that’s what happened when he is so much influenced by the big brothers.

It is raining. The sky is grey. We Malaysians spell grey, g r e y, and not g r a y, right? I should be sleeping but I got a leg cramp and that woke me up at 8 am. God knows why I was bending one leg while sleeping? Maybe I was dreaming I am a dog and was pissing or something. Have you ever notice how agile dogs are when they want to piss? They will run run run and suddenly lifted up one leg and they pee. Then, they continue run run run.

Anyway, the leg cramp reminds me of the times when I was pregnant. I used to get leg cramps during pregnancies and the nightmare was I usually get cramps on both legs. I would wake up screaming and my hubby would jump up thinking I was in labour or something.

But now, no more pregnant, so leg cramp cannot ‘teh’ or ‘manja’ and screamed for him to help push my foot up to the shin to reduce the pain. Sendiri kena tanggung, slow slow extend and straighten the leg and then, slow slow pull back the foot.

Now, I am trying to recall what I was dreaming I was doing before the leg cramp.

And yeah, it is the weekend but we have no plans to go anywhere. Cos the places we want to go are fully booked.

You just got to love that man for his humour.

“You know, we are born together, we grow up together, we play together, we enjoy life together, we grow old together,” he paused and then came the clincher.

“But why must that thing die before me,” he said, bringing down the house.

Mahathir, who obviously enjoyed telling the joke, was grinning from ear to ear.

“Anyway, for me it’s quite harmless (to view porn). Looking at these things, you really have nostalgia … nothing wakes up at all, everything is dead,” he said, referring to his inability to ‘rise to occasion’ in this case.

Born together but that thing die first. Poor thing….

Oh dear me….I cannot stop laughing.

I should have taken a photo with Bro. Paul but I totally forgot! Now, I got no proof I have interviewed the coolest headmaster.

He is funny but I think I was the only one laughing at his jokes. During the school assembly, he was telling the students, “This is like the United Nations. As I am talking, translations are going on. See? Form Three are translating in Tamil right now.” Students nowadays are different from my time. When I was in school, when the headmaster spoke, the students hushed up and listened. Now, they talk as he talks.

Then, during mass, Bro. Paul made it clear that the Holy Communion is for baptised Catholics because we believed in the Body and Blood of Christ in the piece of wafer given to us. So, he told a few of the students whom he knows are not baptised Catholics. He said, “If you take it…tonight…when you sleep….you are going to hear….” (and he made ghostly sounds). He explained that the students can attend RCIA or catechism class if they want.

I celebrated mass with the Catholic students. Father Dominic came. Meanwhile, Jimmy was running around his alma mater filming the rest of the students. The Muslim students prayed in the open court, the Buddhist students prayed in the hall, the Hindu students at another location, Sikhs at another place. It has to be the most beautiful way of getting our children to ‘at least believe there is God lah’ (Bro. Paul’s words). Because Bro Paul said many students do not have that faith to cling to and when they hit a wall, some ended up in a mess or even committed suicide.

In a way, it is kind of sad that he is leaving. But like he said, there is the internet!

Oh ya, I also forgot to ask him if he reads my blog. Ish! Nolah, actually I was quite nervous so I hampalang forgot all about it.

I thank God and praise God that this interview and filming of the school was made possible. Thank God for Bro. Paul too. Thank you, Bro Paul for giving to the Lord.

How much do you know about other religions? How well do you tolerate when their beliefs are totally opposing to yours? How mature are you in accepting the differences?

I admit I totally have no idea about Hare Krsna before I went for this interview. I have the impression they are part of the hippies movement or part of Hinduism. But after listening to the explanation, I was so much more enlightened.

The above video is the first of a series of videos we are making on religions/faiths practised by Malaysians. God’s willing, I hope to cover most of the major faiths/religions.

So far, we have covered Hare Krsna and Sai Baba. Yesterday night Sai Baba filming was so surreal to me. I was like, “Jimmy, OMG, what is Jesus doing there? And Mother Mary! ” because Sai Baba devotees offer worship to every major faiths Divine Being/gods/deities. When I was in Hare Krsna, I was about to break into giggles because the priests there didn’t know we were there to film and thought we were there to pray. So, he gave us joss-sticks and I was there kneeling and waiting for several minutes, wondering what to do…Last night, I know I better stick to filming and not interviewing because I am just speechless to see how all embracing Sai Baba devotees are. I couldn’t get over the ‘OMG, MY Jesus is standing there too!’

Tomorrow, Jimmy and I have the opportunity to go to St. Xavier Institution to interview Bro Paul and also to film how the students there worship because it is their annual Worship Day. (It is Divine Intervention that we get to go on this most appropriate day.) All the students will go to their respective society/clubs and worship.

I can tell you, it is not easy to cover religious issues but God’s willing, I am going to bring the major faiths to everyone’s access. Sure we can read it up on the net but we Malaysians are ignorant how the other faiths are practised here in Malaysia and I believe all of us will be better persons once we know.

Hope all are enlightened with the explanation from Hare Krsna’s temple administrator. Hare Krsna, Hare Rama.
